SLPP strongman Johnston Fernando said they would not sit in the opposition, after appointing the president and securing a majority for him.
He was answering questions raised by a journalist.
What we want is not ministerial positions, but to strengthen the economy of the country and the people, he said.
The government should be strengthened by luring any number of MPs from the SJB, the SLPP MP stressed.
Fernando also said there were no plans to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as the prime minister.
