Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has warned of a series of attacks against anti-government protestors with one year completed since their peaceful vigil at Galle Face.

Former Kaduwela deputy mayor Chandika Abeyratne’s assault on ‘Aragalaya’ activist Piyath Nikeshala is the beginning of those attacks, he told parliament yesterday (11).

Followers of Gotabaya Rajapaksa who retreated following his ouster are again raising their heads under the Ranil Wickremesinghe-led regime, Premadasa charged.

He urged the speaker, prime minister and other authorities to ensure the safety of ‘Aragalaya’ activists, and noted a list of the SLPP’s targets is in circulation in social media.

Meanwhile, both Nikeshala and Abeyratne were granted bail yesterday after the magistrate visited them at hospital.
