The government has been accused of “a cultural genocide in the homeland of the Tamils.”
One of the speakers at a protest called by the Tamil National Council on May 07 made the accusation.
Lawyer Kanagaratnam Sugash said the Ranil-Rajapaksa regime was systematically swindling the Tamil homeland and committing a massive cultural genocide.
If allowed, the Tamil motherland will become fully Sinhala Buddhist in another 10 years, he said.
The latest contentious site claimed by both Tamils and Sinhalese is Kadurugoda Vihara, or Kandarodai.
PLOTE leader D. Siddarthan claimed it belonged to ‘Tamil Buddhists’, and said plans were being made to claim it for Sinhala Buddhists.
A nearby land has been bought and offered to a Buddhist monk to build a temple, he charged.
Similar protests have taken place against Tissa Vihara at Kankesanturai and Sri Samiddi Sumana Vihara at Navatkuly among others.
