Accusing the government of dragging Tamils into ruin, a Tamil MP has asked the IMF if it is supporting the government to pave the way for another armed conflict.

ITAK’s Sivagnanam Sritharan told the House yesterday (26) he suspected if the global lender was aiding the government to evict Tamils from the country by taking over their land, while justice is yet to be given to victims of enforced disappearances.

Speaking during the House debate on the IMF’s extended fund facility, he urged the IMF to give an assurance that Tamils will not be dragged towards ruin after the economy is rebuilt with financial aid.

The country is in financial crisis due to decades of war against Tamils funded by foreign loans, the MP charged.
