While conceding that state institutions running at a loss need to be reformed, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa alleges the present regime plans to sell off the profit-making ones as well.

In a statement on the IMF’s extended fund facility, he claimed the government failed to secure the best deal for the country and its people when it reached out for the global lender at the last moment.

“The country has become a ‘land of auctions’ for capitalists across the world”, he alleged.

“The government should follow different models like in Singapore and Malaysia and prepare a model for our country; to increase the revenue of profitable organizations and to transform loss-making organizations into profitable ones,” he said.
