The reported assault on a Kathi court magistrate by a Muslim MP in Puttalam has been denounced by a grouping of women.
The Women’s Action Network operating in the north and the east also called for an impartial investigation into the incident.
Kathi court magistrate Dr. Mohamed Rahmatullah Mohamed has complained to police that he was assaulted by MP Ali Sabri Raheem at the home of the latter’s daughter on March 26.
Mohamed claimed he was under pressure from the politician to step down from his position.
The Women’s Action Network said this was the third incident of assault on a Kathi magistrate in Puttalam.
It also stressed the urgent need to amend the Muslim marriages and divorce act.
