A postponement of the local government polls could happen if the delimitation commission completes its task and a relevant gazette is issued.
Halving the existing 8,400 members of the LG bodies as per the delimitation commission’s mandate will lead to such an eventuality, said the Election Commission.
Chairman of the delimitation commission Mahinda Deshapriya said their work was now in the final stage.
He has told MeeMassooTV that a full report could be released by the end of March.
Once the reduction of the members of LG bodies comes into effect, there is a likelihood of fresh nominations being called for the election, he added.
