The SJB vows to take to the streets with the people to safeguard their democratic right if the government prevents the holding of the local government polls.
Its general secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara said the government was doing its utmost to put off the election which it is certain of losing.
Meanwhile, MP Prof. Charitha Herath said the main pillar of a democratic government was to guarantee the right to vote.
Executive director of local election monitor PAFFREL, Rohana Hettiarachchi said holding the LG polls has become quite a formidable task.
