The chairman of Jamaat-e-Islami – Sri Lanka, M.H. Haqbar has been released from charges emanating from the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Colombo chief magistrate Prasanna Alwis ordered his release after the attorney general informed the court that there was no evidence to prove charges against him under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Arrested by the CCD, he was previously ordered to be released in September 2019, but the TID detained him on charges of aiding the terror attacks.

He later filed a fundamental rights petition, challenging his arrest against on the same charges, which was heard and the ruling delivered.
