The Gotabaya Rajapaksa regime collapsed within one year of the curse against the abductors of her husband she had made in front of Goddess Kali, said the wife of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.
Sandya Ekneligoda made a beseeching of gods at Kali Amman Kovil in Mutwal and later gave an interview to the YouTube channel ‘Sandeshaya by Saroj.’
Since January 2022 when she took an oath, Sandya has been shaving her head and wearing all-black along with a red shawl.
She said she would not grow her hair until her husband was found.
Her curse a year ago gave results within a year and the rulers involved were expelled by the people, she said.
Speaking further, Sandya said a truth and reconciliation commission proposed by president Ranil Wickremesinghe could be an eyewash for the victims and the international community, and called for a mechanism involving foreign judges.
Commemorative events are now taking place to seek justice for the slain and persecuted journalists also including Lasantha Wickrematunga, Nimalarajan Mylvaganam and Dharmaratnam Sivaram.
The Working Journalists Association is organizing another event tomorrow near Viharamaha Devi Park in Colombo.
