The Supreme Court has extended an injunction against the accepting of nominations for the Kalmunai Urban Council at the local government polls until the conclusion of the hearing of a related FR petition.
The petition has been filed by a State Services Commission member, A.L.M. Saleem, and a LG representative, A.R.M. Aseem.
They claim a violation of their fundamental rights by the transfer of their area of residence from Saindamaruthu to Kalmunai under the latest delimitation of LG areas.
A three-member SC judges panel yesterday (19) granted leave to proceed with the petition that cites the chairman and the members of the Election Commission and the Delimitation Commission and top election officials in Ampara.
They were ordered to be issued notice again.
The next hearing takes place on March 24.
