France will soon deport 46 Sri Lankans presently being detained for attempting to enter French territories illegally, said French ambassador in Colombo Eric Lavertu.
The diplomat said so during a cordial meeting he had with public security minister Tiran Alles in Colombo today (29) on strengthening diplomatic ties and other matters.
He also said the French police, immigration authorities and the embassy would organise an awareness event to prevent illegal migrations by Sri Lankans.
Agreement was reached at the meeting to hold a workshop together with Sri Lanka’s police to curb injustices against children and women in the island.
Furthermore, the ambassador pledged to assist in the development of the tourism police.
