A presidential candidate to be supported by the SLPP should be able to take forward and safeguard the policies of the party, said its national organizer Namal Rajapaksa.
He stressed that his party would have nothing to do with persons wanting their support at elections only as well as the party breakaway, so-called independents.
Party politicians supporting the president who say they cannot win together with the SLPP are free to leave the party, he added.
