A building complex intended to bring all state institutions in Polonnaruwa under one roof has been left to ruin for more than five years now.

This came to light at the sectoral oversight committee on environment and sustainable development chaired by Ajith Mannapperuma at a meeting on 20 June, according to Lankadeepa.lk.

‘Methsiripaya’ was built at a cost of Rs. 1,010 million by former president Maithripala Sirisena.

Some institutions have informed the committee that they could not have offices there because the building was without air-conditioning and also raised higher rental charges.

Others willing to go there have not received any instructions from authorities so far.

Mannapperuma asked the district secretary to submit a report as soon as possible.

The committee recommended all state entities in Polonnaruwa to be shifted to this facility, with no rent charged for the first six months and the treasury bearing maintenance costs for one year.
