Public security minister Tiran Alles has written to the attorney general, seeking his advice with regard to the Royal Park murder convict, whose presidential pardon has now been overturned.

The Supreme Court ruled on 06 June that former president Maithripala Sirisena’s pardoning Jude Shramantha Jayamaha was against provisions in the constitution.

Taking up a petition filed by the aggrieved party, the court ordered the payment of a Rs. three million compensation.

Since receiving the pardon, Jayamaha has been living out of the country.

He was found guilty of killing his Swedish girlfriend Yvonne Johnston at Royal Park residencies in Rajagiriya on 01 July 2005.
