Latter-day Saint (LDS) Charities, the Humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the United States donated a consignment of cancer drugs worth over US$ 225,000 to the Health Ministry yesterday (11).

Asia Area Welfare and Self-Reliance Director at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mickey Lui handed over the stock of drugs to Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana at the Health Ministry.

The Latter-day Saint (LDS) Charities has expressed their willingness to provide cancer drugs required for the country for a period of one year at a cost of over one million US dollars and the agreement with regard to this grant was signed in February this year at the Health Ministry and this is the first consignment of drugs received under this grant.

This consignment of essential cancer drug stock includes 13 types of drugs under the first phase.

This cancer drug stock includes Abiraterone Acetate -250 mg tablet, Anastrozole 1 mg tablet, Capecitabine 50 mg tablet, Carboplatin 450mg/45ml Vial 450 mg Injection, Ciplatin 50 mg /50ml vial 50 mg Injection, Dacarbazine 200mg vial 200mg Injection, Docetaxel 4mg Vial 80mg Injection, Docetaxel 80 mg/4 mg Vial 80 mg Injection, Irrinotican 100mg/5ml Vial 80mg Injection includes other types of pills and injections.

Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Health Services DG Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Medical Supply Division Director Dr. Dedunu Dias, (LDS) Latter-day Saints Charities (USA) International Institute Representatives Eric Chen and Ada Lam also participated.
