The alliance led by the NImal Lanza faction has boycotted two meetings of the election operations committee appointed by president Ranil Wickremesinghe in protest against Basil Rajapaksa, who attended on both occasions.
This committee meets every Monday of the week.
Lanza’s side has told Wickremesinghe that they would not participate in the meetings if the Rajapaksas are there.
They discussed this at a meeting with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s Nimal Siripala de Silva faction on 08 May as well.
Lanza said then that around 40 MPs with his alliance have taken a decision to boycott even public rallies that will be attended by the Rajapaksas.
He added that they would support Wickremesinghe at the presidential polls separately.
