Police have been accused of violently disrupting a war-dead remembrance by students of the Eastern University.

Religious leaders and civil society activists condemned the incident that occurred on 18 May.

Tamil journalists videoed Eravur police OIC N. Harsha de Silva disrupting the remembrance even without producing any court order against it.

Two days later, civil society activist Wimalasena Lavakumar told the media that the police were violating law and order in the province.

He urged the Human Rights Commission to take action against the police for manipulating the law to suit their needs.
