A Tamil MP has demanded the immediate arrest of two traffic policemen over the death of a motorcyclist at Urumpirai in Jaffna on 10 May.

TNPF’s Selvaraja Kajendran also accused Chunnakam police of threatening eye witnesses in an attempt to conceal evidence.

Selvanayagam Pratheepan, 41, had been returning home after working at his paddy field, when he was ordered to stop by the two constables attached to Palali police.

As he had not stopped, the duo had ambushed them and allegedly kicked at his motorcycle, which crashed into a concrete electricity post.

Injured fatally, he died as he was being taken to hospital by an ambulance that arrived 15 minutes later.

Kajendran said the two PCs with no. PC 76512 and PC 71799 should immediately be arrested over the death.
