The Army has sought permission to file written objections to an appeal by a journalist against its refusal to furnish information on LTTE members who surrendered during the final stages of the war.

The court of appeal on 28 March took up a petition filed by B. Nirosh Kumar of ‘Thamil Mirror’.

He had submitted a RTI appeal to the Information Commission after the Army refused to provide him with the details as requested.

The Army told the commission that it had not registered any of the surrendees.

The court ordered the complainant to file written objections to a request by the commission that it be made a party to the case.

The next hearing is due on 21 May.
