The country belongs to all citizens irrespective of their racial, religious, caste, class or political differences, said opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
The country is not a property given by freehold deed to any leader, he said after handing over a smart classroom to Olumadu Tamil Maha Vidyalaya in Vavuniya.
He said politicians are only temporary custodians of the country, although certain persons behave as if it is a family property of theirs, he charged.
Also, there are signs of political parties becoming properties of particular families down their generations.
But, the country belongs to its 22 million people only, Premadasa added.
