The cabinet has instructed top officials of the Central Bank to explain to parliament the 70 per cent salary increase they have approved for themselves.
Ministers registered their opposition to this pay hike, when CBSL officials were summoned before the cabinet meeting presided by president Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (04).
For their part, CBSL officials gave reasons for the move, but ministers asked if it was appropriate to do so in view of the country’s financial situation.
In the end, CBSL officials were told to explain matters to party leaders and the COPE today.
