The banking system seems unresponsive to the government order to suspend the execution of parate law, said opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.

He urged the government to act swiftly with a backbone, make this a state policy and intimate about same to state and private financial institutions.

Premadasa said he has been raising a voice for several years, both in and out of parliament, on behalf of micro, small and medium scale enterprises.

These SMEs contribute 50 per cent to GDP and 52 pc to employment in the country, he noted.

As a result of the government being told about the injustices caused to them due to parate law, a suspension has been ordered until December.

The opposition leader asked the government to strictly implement it without playing games with people’s lives in a year of elections.
