The National Movement for Social Justice has refuted claims that it is fulfilling a contract by president Ranil Wickremesinghe by calling for an abolition of the executive presidency.

These allegations by opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, Ven. Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thera, MP Wasantha Yapa Bandara and certain others are without any basis, said the movement’s secretary Sunil Jayasekara.

The secretary has told ‘Sandeshaya with Saroj’ so in response to Premadasa’s reference to the Movement’s chairman Karu Jayasuriya having received state awards and the allegation that he was now doing the president’s bidding.

It is a statement unbecoming of his position as the opposition leader and an insult to all recipients of state awards, he said.

Jayasekara rejected Yapa Bandara’s claim that Jayasuriya is having dreams of becoming a nominal president.

The MP gave considerable contributions as a member of Viyath Maga to create an all-powerful ruler who is responsible for the country’s present plight, he recalled.

Jayasekara stressed their call for the abolition of the executive presidency was not in any way an attempt at the postponement of elections.
