SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa says it is wrong to postpone elections since the constitution does no permit the executive to do so.

“Elections should take place as per the constitution. The presidential election is up next. So, every party should prepare for that election,” he said.

Rajapaksa was speaking after paying homage at Kelaniya Rajamaha Vihara.

He said that as the party that elected Ranil Wickremesinghe to presidency as per constitutional provisions, the SLPP remains committed to safeguarding the constitution.

Democracy is the best blessing for Wickremesinghe, who has been in politics for more than 45 years now, although he had accused even his father Mahinda Rajapaksa of violating democracy, added the MP.
