A nine-member medical board has been ordered to be appointed to inquire into the actual health condition of former health minister Keheliya Rambukwella and report to courts by 26 February.

Pursuant to a motion filed by deputy solicitor general Lakmini Girihagama, Maligakanda magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama has ordered the director general of health services for an immediate inquiry into why Rambukwella cannot be produced before courts.

The court ordered the committee to be comprised of specialist doctors on cardiology, orthopaedics and pulmonary diseases.

The suspect was not produced before courts when the case into the substandard human immunoglobulin vaccines scam was taken up on 15 February.

The doctor of the prison hospital, where Rambukwella is warded, submitted a medical report saying he cannot be produced before courts until 22 February.

However, another suspect, director of the medical supplies division Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, who is warded at Colombo National Hospital, was brought by ambulance for the court hearing.
