Chief Government Whip and SLPP Gampaha District MP Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday (14) declared that he would back President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s candidature at the forthcoming presidential election.
The declaration was made in Kandy against the backdrop of the ruling party delaying making an official announcement of its position in this regard.
A statement issued by Urban Development and Housing Ministry quoted Minister Ranatunga as having said that those who genuinely loved the country, including the SLPP, should give another opportunity to UNP leader Wickremesinghe.
Minister Ranatunga said that the SLPP would announce the correct decision at the right time.
