Activist Oshala Herath had filed an application with the Supreme Court challenging the decision given by the Court of Appeal with regard to a UK citizenship of State Minister Diana Gamage.
The Supreme Court has commenced the examination of the application.
The application filed by Oshala Herath was taken up in the presence of Justices Gamini Amarasekera, Kumuduni Wickremesinghe, and Janak De Silva.
Attorney-at-Law Hafeel Fariz appearing for the petitioner noted that State Minister Diana Gamage has no legal Sri Lanka Citizenship, and that information has come to light that she was staying in Sri Lanka using a residential visa.
He also noted that State Minister Diana Gamage had concealed the fact of her UK citizenship, and obtained a Sri Lankan passport as well.
Counsel pointed out that the State Minister had visited Sri Lanka numerous times since 2004, using residential and visit visa.
President's Counsel Shavendra Fernando appearing for the State Minister raised objections when the application was taken up.
He noted that his objections were based on three factors, and requested the court to dismiss the application.
The application will be taken up for consideration again tomorrow.
