The SJB is having a programme an especially to uplift farmers that will usher in an era to make them the king, said opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
The country’s farming families numbering 1.8 million are in disaster under the present regime, he told a farmers’ conference in Polpithigama yesterday (11).
The SJB progrmame for them will include a national land policy, empowering them with new technology, a pricing formula to protect both farmers and consumers, end to rice mill mafia etc., he said.
Premadasa promised to exempt fertilizer and other agricultural appliances from the 18 per cent VAT and to reintroduce a pension scheme for farmers as well.
