India's Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar called on President Ranil Wickremesinghe last evening (09) in Perth on the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Conference.

The discussions focused on the progress of the bilateral projects which are being undertaken.

 

Could not have survived crisis without India

 

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has thanked India for the economic support extended to Sri Lanka country amid the economic crisis.

"Thankful to India, we could not have survived and this is why we are also looking at closer relations between the two countries. India provided a support of almost $4 billion to the country during the economic crisis," President Wickremesinghe said speaking to WION in Perth.

The President observed that plans are underway for the Indian Institute of Technology - Chennai to establish a campus in Sri Lanka. He also spoke on other issues including the visit of Chinese vessels to Sri Lanka, Maldives President Muizzu's India policy, free trade agreements and big power rivalry among other things.
