An alleged assault of a Tamil prisoner at Magazine Prison last month is under investigation, said the Prisons Department.
Two investigation boards have been appointed following a complaint lodged by ITAK MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam and on the orders of prisons minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
One team is from the police led by an ASP, while the other comprises prison officials, said prisons commissioner Gamini B. Dissanayake.
Rasamanickam said during a visit to Tamil inmates on 26 January that political prisoner Pradeepan was assaulted by a former Army officer attached to the prison police during a search operation.
