The Nationa Movement for Social Justice has called for a speedy resolution of the apparent clash between the executive and the Constitutional Council.
In a statement, chairman of the Movement Karu Jayasuriya said the CC established for ensuring democracy should not be weakened and no party should clash with it.
He said that as a partner to the establishment of independent commissions as per the 17th amendment 23 years ago, he was saddened by this development as it ruins the efforts, time and contributions made towards its realization.
The executive and the CC should make sure that there is no clash between them and take the lead towards public welfare and minimizing economic hardships and burning issues.
They should also work together to eliminate killings, thefts, drugs and rampant corruption and irregularities, the former speaker added.
