A paper is to be presented to the cabinet today (05) to obtain legal status for calling for expressions of interest for the commercial cultivation of cannabis.
State minister Sisira Jayakody said the 1971 Ayurvedic Act has been amended to allow for herbal cultivation.
The attorney general’s draft will be submitted to the cabinet for approval, he said.
The expected legalizing of cannabis exports will earn huge foreign exchange for the country.
Investors will be chosen through the Ayurvedic Council, he said.
