At least 900 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, which is twice the figure reported previously,
said Dr. Deepal Perera, consultant paediatrician at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children.
He attributed the high prevalence of mainly leukemia and brain cancer among children to their addiction to mobile phones and lack of physical activity.
Also, artificial drinks and short-eats cause such noncommunicable diseases, he said, adding that breastfeeding at least for two years is helpful in preventing cancer among children.
