An inmate of Magazine prison in Colombo has been assaulted and his life is in danger, according to ITAK MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam.
The Tamil parliamentarian denounced justice minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe over the incident.
Identified as Morris, the prisoner was arrested under the PTA in connection with the Central Bank bombing.
Speaking to the media in Batticaloa, Rasamanickam said the lives of persons arrested under the PTA are at risk as they are kept along with other prisoners.
“Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa is the justice minister. Prisons function under him. This happened due to his carelessness.”
The international community should exert more pressure on the government to ensure the safety of political prisoners, he added.
