A female UNP politician of Welikanda stands accused of cheating money from farmers with promises of agricultural machinery.
K.H. Udenika Damayanthi defrauded around Rs. five million by using her positions at World Solidarity Organization and Abdul Kalaam Memorial Foundation, alleges social media activist Sumudu Maddumarachchi.
The woman rejected the allegations and threatened to consume poison if farmers demanded money from her.
Some Polonnaruwa farmers have now received some of the money back from the two organizations.
The Foundation’s Sri Lanka representative Karunakaran Silva has denied any connections with Damayanthi.
Complaints have been lodged against both in the financial crime division of the police.
