The Supreme Court yesterday (29) issued notice on former presidents Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa to appear before the court in connection with a fundamental rights violation charge.

The case challenges the removal of Ranil Wickremesinghe as the prime minister of the good governance regime by Sirisena in 2018.

He was replaced by Rajapaksa.

Sirisena and Rajapaksa are among the respondents who have been ordered by a three-member SC bench to respond to the allegation.

Filed by social activist Oshala Herath, the petition will be heard on 23 September.
