The fine for wearing a military uniform or emblem unlawfully is to be raised to Rs. 50,000 from Rs. 100.
An amendment in this regard to the Penal Code has been proposed by justice minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
The draft act also increases a Rs. 1,000 fine to Rs. 10,000 for a landowner or tenant found guilty of rioting.
Further, fines for creating commotion, public disturbance or obstruction have been raised respectively from Rs. 100 to Rs. 10,000, from Rs. 50 to Rs. 25,000 and from Rs. 50 to Rs. 50,000.
