Sri Lanka is to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Thailand on 03 February, expecting to enhance bilateral trade to US$ 1.5 billion plus.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will visit the country for the signing of the agreement.

He will also participate as a special guest in the 76th National Independence Day celebrations which will be held on 04 February 4 Galle Face under the patronage of president Ranil Wickremesinghe.

This agreement also aims to attract Thai investors to Sri Lanka and a team of 50 leading investors from Thailand will accompany the Thai Prime Minister to explore investment opportunities in the country.

Under the new Free Trade Agreement, tax relief will be given for some goods traded between the two countries.

The FTA will pave for enhanced exports from Sri Lanka to Thailand especially gems and jewellery, tea and agricultural products.
