The online safety bill being hurriedly introduced by the government could be detrimental even to children unborn, warned SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne.

Speaking in parliament, he said the draft law could have repercussions especially on the IT sector that earns foreign exchange for the country.

Wickramaratne questioned the government’s haste in introducing a bill denounced by the civil society and local and international organizations.

This bill could be debated and adopted appropriately, he said.

The House debate on the online safety bill, presented by public security minister Tiran Alles, started yesterday and a vote will be taken this afternoon.
