Wildlife authorities have formulated a new set of regulations to assist the Veddah community in their livelihoods.

It follows an extensive dialogue with all stakeholders.

To identify any amendments, the new regulations were discussed yesterday (23) at the parliamentary complex, chaired by justice minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.

He said on the occasion that just like any other community, human rights of the indigenous people too, should be guaranteed.

Present on the occasion were officials of the departments of attorney general, wildlife, wildlife conservation, legal draftsman and coast conservation, Centre for Policy Alternatives and the justice ministry.

However, there was no representation from the Veddah community.
