Public security minister Tiran Alles has told the police to work closely and friendly with the public.

He was speaking at the launch of a new police CCTV surveillance division.

According to him, ‘Yukthiya’ operation has been able to bridge the relationship gap between the police and the public.

Alles also said CCTV surveillance would be a big strength especially for the traffic police.

While working closely with the public, police should also enforce the law properly and punish wrongdoing, he said.

The newly-established division initially covering Colombo will later be expanded island wide, he said.

Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon and commissioner general of motor traffic Anuruddha Weeerasinghe were among those present on the occasion.
