The National Movement for Social Justice has urged the government to formulate a new bill for online safety in consideration of the views of experts, stakeholders and the society.

In a statement, the Movement asked that the bill already presented be not taken up for debate in parliament on 23 and 24 January as scheduled.

It noted that the bill has been rejected by recognized local and foreign organizations as one that would repress dissent and freedom of expression.

The statement also made references to the Supreme Court ruling on the bill.
