A timid government unprepared to hold even local government elections is now bragging about conducting general and presidential polls, charged opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
He also said the president was gauging the public opinion with his talk about holding a presidential election.
Premadasa was speaking after handing over smart classroom equipment worth Rs. one million to Sri Dutugemunu Maha Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura.
His SJB is ready to face any election that safeguards democratic rights of the people, he said, adding that the people themselves are prepared likewise.
Speaking further, the opposition leader alleged that government ministers, protected by the president, were swindling public money at will.
The SJB will catch the thieves who ruined the country and recover the stolen wealth for the upliftment of education, health and agriculture, he said.
