Separate investigations by the CID and the Bribery Commission are underway into the import of nano-fertilizer at high prices, said agriculture minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
He distanced himself from the scam, saying it did not happen during his tenure.
The state has lost an estimated Rs. 710 million when 2.1 million litres of nano-fertilizer, each 500 ml bottle costing five dollars, were bought from an Indian company at 10 dollars and 12.5 dollars on separate occasions.
Opposition leader queries loss
Speaking in parliament, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa questioned the steps being taken to recover the losses from the organic fertilizer and nano-fertilizer scams.
The country has received no organic fertilizer from China or the 6.9 million dollars paid for the consignment recovered as yet, he said.
