The Sri Lanka Ports Authority yesterday afternoon (09) threw a party for around 50 MPs,

including ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa, at Colombo Port with a total cost of more than Rs. 2.5 million.

At the request of a minister with links to the port, two SLPA tugs ‘Hansakawa’ and ‘Diya Kovulla’ were allotted for them make a tour of the port.

The SLPA’s cafeteria provided the MPs with foods and beverages.

The personal secretary to the minister in question had sent a list of the requirements to the SLPA chairman on 08 January.

It included cheese sandwiches, butter cake, fish rolls, ice coffee, paper cups, small glasses, spoons and forks, small plates, 55 chairs each from several designs, 60 bottled water (small), five tissue packets, a tent with 10 chairs for the MSD security personnel.

Five staff from the SLPA were also requested to wait on the MPs.

The two tugs were requested in a letter dated 13 December.

The minister had sent invitations, asking ministers, state ministers and MPs to be present at the Chaitya Road entrance to the port at 6.00 pm for a brief sea tour at the beginning of the new year.
