The National Movement for Social Justice has asked authorities to explain as to why justice remains elusive for slain ‘Sunday Leader’ editor Lasantha Wickramatunga even 15 years later.
In a statement, chairman of the Movement Karu Jayasuriya said political chaos and economic bankruptcy do not come as surprises in acountry devoid of the rule of law.
"That came to my mind when paying floral tributes on 08 January to Wickramatunga who is buried at Borella Kanatte," he said.
The former speaker noted that Wickramatunga was a fearless defender of freedom of expression and a beacon of light in the profession of journalism in Sri Lanka.
He added the authorities should take steps to reactivate all halted investigations and ensure justice for the late journalist.
