A person calling himself as ‘Vishwa Buddhi Muni’ has been released on bail on a charge of insulting Buddhism online.

Ratnapure Wimalabuddhi was ordered two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each by Colombo chief magistrate Prasanna Alwis today (09).

The court found that the accusation against him over TikTok videos, one showing a dog being robed, does not fall under the ICCPR.

It told the CID that it could continue a case against him under the penal code.

The CID informed the court that money laundering charges would be filed against him, as his bank account had Rs. three million credited to it within the past 10 months.

Arrested on 13 December, he had been on remand custody since.
