Public security minister Tiran Alles has said that he would not hesitate to take any stern decision in order to save the country, people and children from criminals.

He was speaking at the opening of an automated facial recognition system at the Katunayake airport.

This system has been installed to aid in the ongoing ‘Yukthiya’ operation to curb drugs and the underworld.

A main aim is to prevent organized criminals from travelling to and from Sri Lanka by using fake passports to carry out their nefarious activities, said the ministry.

Speaking at its opening, Alles said the police were working day and night to make the ‘Yukthiya’ operation a success, which is already giving very good results.

“We are not prepared to give into any obstacles from certain persons and laws. A special programme has been implemented to obtain the public’s contributions. Our objective is to create a noticeable change within six months,” he said.

Ministry secretary Viani Gunatilake, acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon and other top officials attended.
