A supplementary measles immunization campaign began in four districts today (06) following a surge in cases.
It was launched at 1,600 centers, with the second phase due to begin on 20 January.
Health Ministry Secretary Palitha Mahipala said children aged between six and nine months will be given a supplementary dose.
Sri Lanka was recognized in 2019 by the World Health Organization as a country that eradicated measles.
But, the supplementary vaccination drive was launched after 700 cases were reported since May 2023.
The United Nations Children's Fund and WHO are supporting the vaccination campaign.
